Your chimney has several parts, and the right repair depends on which part is damaged. Water inside, loose bricks or a fireplace that is not drawing properly are reasons to have it assessed—not a diagnosis on their own.
Leaks & water damage
What you may notice: Dampness near the fireplace, water after rain or staining around the chimney.
What needs checking: The cap, crown, brickwork and the roof-to-chimney seal can all be involved. Finding where water enters comes before choosing a repair.
Missing or damaged caps
What you may notice: A missing, loose or damaged cover at the top, or rain and debris entering the chimney.
Repair options: Skyline offers cap replacement, custom caps, rain caps and multi-flue covers. The right cover depends on the chimney.
Chimney liner problems
What you may notice: Venting concerns or damage identified during an inspection. You may not be able to see a liner problem from outside.
Repair options: The liner is the passage inside the chimney that carries exhaust out. Skyline offers stainless and cast-in-place liners; the condition and connected appliance help determine the appropriate option.
Cracked chimney crowns
What you may notice: Cracks or deterioration in the surface covering the top of the brickwork, sometimes along with water problems.
Repair options: The crown surrounds the flue openings and is different from the cap above them. Skyline can assess crown damage and explain the work needed.
Damaged bricks & mortar
What you may notice: Cracked or flaking bricks, loose pieces, gaps between bricks or crumbling mortar joints.
Repair options: Brick replacement addresses damaged bricks; tuckpointing addresses worn mortar joints. More extensive damage may require part or all of the stack to be rebuilt.
Firebox & damper issues
What you may notice: Deterioration inside the fireplace, a damper that is difficult to operate or smoke entering the room.
What needs checking: Skyline lists firebox and damper repair among its services. Draft problems can have several causes, so an assessment helps distinguish cleaning or blockage issues from repairs.
Tell Skyline what you have noticed and when it happens. You do not need to know the name of the chimney part to request help.
